Mr. Schroeder was born February 15, 1926 in Buffalo, NY.  At age 17, he joined the Marine Corp during World War II.  He attained the rank of Private First Class and served in the Pacific Theater at New Habrides, St. Mathias, Mindanao, the Philippines and in the consolidation of the Northern Solomon Islands.

After returning home he went to Cortland University and became a Physical Education Teacher.  After a year of teaching he joined the bakery that his father founded in 1928.  It was the Rudolph Schroeder Bakery.  He was a baker, along with his 4 brothers.  Upon the death of Rudolph Schroeder, Sr., the brothers became partners and renamed the bakery, Schroeders Cosmopolitan Bakery.  Gordon and his brothers opened 4 retail stores, in Buffalo, Kenmore, Transit at Main, and at Eggert and Sheridan.  At age 62, Gordon became a salesman for the bakery with much success.  After selling the stores in 2006 and retiring he still made baked goods, cookies, and cakes giving most of them away to family and friends.

His family had a cottage at Silver Lake, NY near Warsaw, NY where his woodworking craftsmanship was used.  He also taught his grandchildren water skiing and fishing skills there.

Gordon was married 54 years to Betty McKinstry Schroeder who predeceased him May 5, 2007.  He is survived by his children: Kathleen Harris, Jamie Handel, Gary, Thomas, and Daniel Schroeder.  He also has 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He is survived by his brother, James Schroeder and a sister Carole Golebiewski, and was predeceased by his brothers, Donald, Rudolph “Tooty” and Robert Schroeder.
