Santo J. "Mack" Santarsiero

Of Buffalo, December 9, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Joan A. Wilhelm Santarsiero; dear father of Richard (JoAnn) Santarsiero; loving grandfather of Ashley (Tony) Trusello and Emily Santarsiero; son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Ferris) Santarsiero; brother of John (Natalie) and the late Joseph Santarsiero; also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the D. LAWRENCE GINNANE FUNERAL HOME, 3215 Delaware Ave.,Kenmore, Friday 3-7 PM when a Funeral Service will commence. Memorial contributions to Hospice Foundation Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, 14227 are preferred. 

"Mack" attended Burgard Vocational High School and was named "All High Catcher" in 1951. He attended the 1952 pro baseball tryouts in Florida and received an offer with the Washington Senators, he turned down the offer and returned to Buffalo and married the former Joan Wilhelm in October 1952.  He was a Private in the US Army from 1953 to 1955.  He played local baseball from 1957 to 1969 for Tovie Asarese at Royal Printing; also was a umpire for the WNY Umpire Association for local baseball games and was inducted to the WNY Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.

After retiring as a trucking dispatcher he taught driving instruction for Andy's Driving School where he earned his nickname "Mack" wearing his Mack Truck hat so his students would remember his name.

A member of the Knights of Columbus #185 downtown Buffalo, he was their Athletic Director from 1973 - 1976.  In 1975 he was named "Knight of the Year".  He played handball and later racket ball from 1969 - 2012 playing into his 80's
