LAZZARA - Horatius V.
Nov. 6, 1930 - Feb. 1, 2026
Devoted husband of 70 years to Michelina (Sciandra) Lazzara. Beloved father of Grace, Lisa (Kevin) Hanna, MaryBeth and Salvatore. Dear papa of Luis Lazzara, and James and Michael Hanna. Brother of the late Phillip (late Rosie), late Vincent (late Evelyn), late Salvatore, late Anthony (Geri) Lazzara and late Marguerite (Sam) Sammarco; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Well known as a financial wizard and wily poker player, Horace’s most celebrated successes were as a distance runner. He competed in dozens of marathons, including Boston and New York City, triathlons and ultra-marathons. Indeed, the Buffalo News called him “Ironman” in the headline of its article on his completion of a 100-mile run in Delaware Park. Everyone who knew him, however, understood his family was his proudest accomplishment, especially his partners in crime, his grandsons. He retired from his role as an engineer and fireman at Bethlehem Steel’s South Buffalo Railway, where he worked for many years alongside his father and brothers.
Horace’s family will receive visitors at D. LAWRENCE GINNANE FUNERAL HOME, 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, on Thursday, Feb. 19th from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon when a funeral service will begin.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial gifts to Hospice Foundation PO Box 590 Buffalo, NY 14240 are most welcome.
