Jeanne Bartlo Obituary

Jeanne Catherine Bartlo (nee: Pritchard)

February 11, 1935 - March 18, 2026

Jeanne Catherine (Pritchard) Bartlo, 91, of Grand Island, New York, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving children.

Born on February 11, 1935 in Buffalo, New York, she lived a remarkable life marked by unwavering dedication and service to God, family, and country and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.

Jeanne led a devout life of service within the Catholic Church parishes of St. Paul's in Kenmore, New York; St. Stephen's in Grand Island, New York; St. Christopher’s in Tonawanda, New York; and St. Joseph’s of Lakeland, Florida. Trusting always in the Lord, Jeanne was inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary and strived to live in the Divine Will of God.

She grew up in Buffalo as the oldest of six children of Arthur and Marjorie Pritchard. Jeanne graduated from Bishop O’Hern High School in 1953 and later earned her degree as a Registered Nurse (RN) from Sisters of Charity Hospital in 1956.

Soon after, Jeanne married Noel E. Bartlo and the couple eventually settled on Victoria Boulevard in the Village of Kenmore. She spent the next thirty years raising their family of eight children and supporting her husband’s growing legal practice.

In 1984, with her family mostly grown, Jeanne embarked on the third chapter in her life, a life of service in Kenmore, NY and Town of Tonawanda, NY government. She was elected Trustee of the Village of Kenmore in 1985 and re-elected in 1989. In 1992, she was elected to the Council of the Town of Tonawanda, re-elected, and served until her retirement in 1999. People responded well to her thoughtful and kind manner, and Jeanne was a popular and well-liked civil servant who was often the top vote getter come election day due to her diligent door-to-door campaigning style and her desire and ability to listen to and follow-up on residents' ideas and concerns.

Jeanne and Noel later moved from Kenmore to the Town of Tonawanda and Shalamar Creek in Lakeland, before living the remainder of their years on Grand Island.

Jeanne was community-minded and a quiet, natural leader, serving as President of St. Paul's Home School Association, Mt. St. Mary Academy Parents' Guild, and Zonta International of Kenmore, New York. She was a member of the Advisory Board for the Women's Health Initiative Project at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the Kenmore/Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce. In addition to holding elected office, Jeanne was active in behind the scenes in local politics, serving as committeeperson for many years. She was a member of Kenmore Mercy Hospital Pastoral Care Committee, St. Paul's R.C. Church Pastoral Committee, and Vice-Chairman of the Erie County Foster Grandparent Advisory Council.

Tracing her lineage in North America to pre-revolutionary times, Jeanne was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) descended from ancestors who aided in the achievement of American independence.

She was committed to the rights and dignity of all people and compassionate and caring toward others. In 1998, Jeanne was awarded the prestigious Susan B. Anthony Award by The Interclub Council of Western New York (ICC/WNY) — a coalition of women’s professional, service, and civic organizations — honoring women like her who demonstrate exceptional dedication to advancing women's rights, leadership, and community service.

Jeanne is survived by her sister, Kathleen (Pritchard) Wicks, her brother, John Pritchard, and eight children: Linda (John) Botek, Mary (Gordon Kirkman) Quatroche, Teresa Murray, Monica (Wayne) Taylor, Patricia (R. Kevin) Stevick, Noel J. (Carol) Bartlo, Daniel J. (Leah) Bartlo, and John A. (Pamela) Bartlo. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Noel, her parents, Arthur and Marjorie (Pike) Pritchard, her sister, Marion (Pritchard) Deneen, and brothers, David Pritchard and Charles Pritchard.
