Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Rodney W. Dick. Dear mother of Rev. Jeffrey S. (Lynn) Dick, Charmaine (Philip) Then and Kevin Dick; loving Mimi of 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister of Rodney (Marci) Shellenberger, Susan Shellenberger and the late Doris Hoffman and Glen Shellenberger; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

All are invited to a Memorial Service at the Chapel of the Elms at Elmlawn Cemetery 3939 Delaware Ave. Tonawanda, NY. Thursday (October 6th) at 10:00 AM. Please meet at the chapel.

Miriam L. Dick,  89, passed away quietly at home on October 2nd.   She was born on September 6, 1933 on Dover, PA to Stover Shellenberger and Jennie (Maul) Shellenberger.    Miriam graduated from Dover Joint High School in 1951 and enjoyed attending her class reunions every year.

Miriam married Rodney Dick on June 19, 1954 and they enjoyed traveling, camping family picnics and gatherings, going or watching the Bills games and  much more.

Miriam was a stay at home mom until she went to work for Survey Service of Western NY.  She began by making phone calls to people to participate in market research surveys.  She later advanced to be a supervisor and was most proud of running the Eastern Hills office for many years.   After retiring she continued to enjoy gathering with her many co-workers for dinners or other outings.  These friendships were very important to her.

She also worked with her daughter’s estate sale business and developed many friendships with the regular customers.   After she stopped working there, many would ask about her.

Miriam and Rod moved to the Town of Tonawanda in 1966.  Shortly after they became members at the Church of the Nativity.  Miriam was very active there with the Church School and chaperoning youth events.  She organized coffee hour and served on the Friendship Committee.  She also served on the Committee on Ministry for the Western Association of the NY Conference, UCC.  She was very proud of her work and friendships with area clergy.

Miriam was a person of deep faith in God.  During the last 2 years, she would watch 3 different church services each week – her own church, her grandson’s church and the church her son pastored in Michigan.

She delighted in her family most of all.  She loved her visits from her extended family in PA and looked forward to these gatherings.   She was very proud of her 3 children and their families.   Her wall of family photos was a great joy to her.   Miriam enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved sending them cards, often with a $2 bill inside.  She was lovingly known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and many of their friends!

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents and husband, along with her sister Doris and brother Glenn.  She is survived by her brother Rodney (Marci) Shellenberger and sister Susan Shellenberger in PA.   Also surviving are her 3 adult children and their families, which include 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.   Mimi also has many nieces and nephews and their families.   She counted her large family as a blessing.

Memorial contributions to Nativity United Church of Christ 1530 Colvin Blvd. Buffalo NY 14223 are preferred.
