WINKLER, Walter J.
Friend to many, librarian, bibliophile, ardent collector, artist, woodworker and exuberant lover of life, passed away on July 21, 2022, after a brief illness.
Ever curious, he was a lover of beauty in all its forms, words, art and nature. He also had the loudest laugh in any room he occupied. For all his talents and interests what was most important to Walter was his 31 years of sobriety as an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the life changing impact he had on his many sponsees.
Walter was a graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Canisius College and the University at Buffalo Library School. He was a librarian at Canisius, University of Buffalo and the Downtown Library.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward G. Winkler, MD and Mary C. ( nee Howard) Winkler and his sister Mary Jane Fry. He is also survived by his many dear friends who supported him through his illness.
His friends would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Gasport Nursing Home, Niagara Hospice and Erie County Medical Center for their kindness and care these past three weeks.
All are invited to a Celebration of Life Saturday, September 24th at D. LAWRENCE GINNANE FUNERAL HOME 3215 Delaware Ave., Kenmore 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Memorial donations to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094-1231 are preferred.
